The artist:
Bass and double bass player, Giovanni Mastrangelo began the musical career with various groups in his hometown of Foggia. In 1984, his discovery of Talk Talk with Paul Webb signed his transition from guitar to bass. In 1992, Giovanni began working with the early music group Follorum Ensemble, devoting himself to the study of medieval and Renaissance music, as well as the study of Middle Eastern musical instruments Oud and Saz. In 1997 he played double bass with the ensemble Sailing Ship, a Celtic music group with whom he recorded the album “Salicornia”.

In 1999 he joined the Sciarbà project group dedicated to interpretation of Balkan and Yiddish music. In 2000 he played in the first Ziganamama’s CD and became part of the ensemble The Charmin’ Elf, writing also music and lyrics. Since 2001 he has been collaborating with the Calixtinus, participating in several early music festivals, including “Castel Del Monte II” of the French musician Michel Godard. Since 2006, he has been the Favonio bassist, with whom he won several prizes. He received, with honors, a Bachelor degree in jazz music disciplines address at the Conservatorio U. Giordano in Foggia. In 2009, he attended the first performance of “Giove a Pompei”, written and directed by Giancarlo Schiaffini on lyrics by Silvia Schiavoni Fanfani. In 2012, he participated with the Jazz Ensemble directed by Bruno Tommaso to the concert “Sciamboli and the swing songs”. Also in 2012 he was a guest, with Favonio, in the Club Tenco. He attended seminars, workshops and master classes given by various musicians, including Benny Golson, Steve Swallow, Adam Nussbam, Alain Caron, Jerry Bergonzi, Lew Tabackin, Franco D’Andrea, Gregory Burk, William Parker and Bruno Tommaso. He played with Simona Bencini (Dirotta su Cuba), Mario Rosini, Tosca, Marco Ferradini, Gino Paoli, Daniele Sepe, Folco Orselli, Mauro Pagani, Andrea Chimenti, Irio de Paula.
He also played on RadioSpia 01 (The Charmin’ Elf – She’ll Wear My Ring) and RadioSpia 04 (The Alpha States & Andrea Chimenti – Ashes to Ashes).

The sound:
The “Albert Camus” production is a sort  of a “special issue” of an imaginary comic collection: Marco Maffei wanted a special milestone for the tenth RadioSpia release, which would have further enhanced the composition and the sounds perception. Thus, the studio recording had a very creative approach, different from the usual techniques and functional to the idea of immersive sound that Marco had clear in mind. The song, then, was first mixed in normal stereo, in order to test its artistic path as effective. After a few weeks of evaluations, it was mixed in 7.1 and encoded in order to donate a new way of listening for an audiophile audience.
